Account and minutes

Signing in, your minutes balance, held minutes, and how to request 10 more hours.

Snitt is metered in minutes: one minute of balance per minute of footage it processes — your raw footage, and the published videos it learns a profile from. This page covers where to see your balance, how holds work, and how to request more.

Check your balance

  1. Look at the top bar

The clock icon and number at the top right is what you can spend right now. It turns amber below 30 minutes.

  2. Hover it for the exact figure

The tooltip reads "N minutes available", and says when you are running low.

  3. Open the account menu for more

Click your email beside the number. The menu shows your address, your available minutes, a How minutes work explainer, and Sign out.

  4. Or open Settings → Account

⌘, → Account shows the same balance with a refresh button, plus how many minutes are held right now. See Settings.

How minutes work

You are charged for raw footage, not for output. A 40-minute shoot cut down to 12 minutes costs 40 minutes of balance, because 40 minutes is what Snitt had to process.

Published videos count too. Importing one into a style profile is a job like any other, charged on the video’s length. Working through a back catalogue is a one-time cost; after that, only new imports add to it.

Starting a job puts a hold on minutes. The hold covers what the job could use. Those minutes leave your available balance while the job runs, so a second job cannot spend them twice.

When the job finishes, the hold settles. You pay for what the job actually used and the rest of the hold comes back. The top-bar number updates itself.

The top-bar number is available minutes — your balance minus everything currently on hold. Settings → Account shows the held figure underneath, as “N more are on hold for jobs that are still running.”

A dash instead of a number means Snitt could not reach the server for a fresh balance. Use the refresh button in Settings → Account.

Free credit on signup

Every new account starts with 10 hours of editing credit — 600 minutes — already on the balance. It is granted once, when the account is created. There is nothing to redeem.

When you run out

If a run needs more minutes than you have, it does not start. Snitt says how many it needed and how many were available. Nothing was uploaded and nothing was charged. The project goes back to draft and starts normally once there is credit on the account again.

Snitt shows a Request more minutes button when you are low — under an hour left — and again when a run stops for want of credit. It is the next section.

You may also be told to wait rather than to top up. There is a cap on how many jobs one account runs at once; when you hit it, let one finish.

Requesting more credit

Snitt is in beta and nothing is for sale yet. Credit is granted instead.

  1. Click Request more minutes

It appears in the app once you are low or out of minutes. It opens a page in your browser.

  2. Answer six short questions

What you are making, your channel, how Snitt has worked for you, what is missing, a rating, and what a fair price would be. A few minutes of your time.

  3. Send it

10 more hours — 600 minutes — are added to your account straight away. Close the page and go back to the app.

This works once per account. If you need more after that, mail contact@snitt.ai and tell us what you are making.

Pricing arrives with the paid launch and will be metered on the same raw-footage minutes. See the pricing page for where that stands.

Signing out

Use Sign out in the top-bar account menu, or in Settings → Account. Both do the same thing.

Signing out clears the session on this Mac. Your projects, your profiles and every cut you have already received stay on disk. Jobs already running keep running on the server — Settings tells you when there are any — and they are waiting when you sign back in.

Snitt needs an account to work: the editing decisions are computed on our servers, so a signed-out app has nothing to do. How your footage is handled is covered in our privacy policy.

If something goes wrong

“Sign in again to continue.” The session expired or was cleared. Sign in and carry on; nothing is lost.

The balance never loads. Check the machine is online, then hit refresh in Settings → Account. If it stays blank, mail contact@snitt.ai.

A job stopped partway and you want to know if it cost you. A paused job has not settled yet — its hold is still held, and it settles on what it really used once you resume it. See Troubleshooting.
