Settings

The Settings window — automatic updates, export options, and your account details.

There are two panes and four things you can change. This page lists all of them.

Open Settings

  1. Press ⌘,

Or choose Snitt → Settings… from the menu bar.

  2. Switch panes at the top

General holds the export and update switches. Account shows who is signed in and what is left.

  3. Changes save themselves

There is no Apply and no OK. Close the window when you are done.

Everything in the window

Pane Setting What it does Default
General → Export Include restorable cuts in Final Cut export On: every removed segment rides above the Final Cut timeline as a disabled clip you can drag back down. Off: the timeline holds only the kept cut, with nothing to restore, and the export menu items read “— clean”. On
General → Updates Automatically check for updates Lets Snitt look for a new version by itself — at every launch, and once a day while it stays open. On
General → Updates Check for Updates… Looks right now, whatever the switch says. The same item sits in the menu bar under Snitt → Check for Updates…. —
Account Email The address you are signed in with. Read-only, and selectable so you can copy it. —
Account Minutes available Your spendable balance, with a refresh button beside it. A line underneath says how many minutes are on hold for jobs that are still running. —
Account Sign out Ends the session on this Mac. Same as Sign out in the top-bar account menu. —

The question-mark button beside a switch explains what each of its two states does.

How it works

Export and update settings belong to this Mac, not to your account. Signing in with a different account does not change them.

The Account pane reads the server. It asks for a fresh balance every time you open it — the same request the app makes at launch and after every job. If the network is down the number shows as a dash rather than a stale figure, and refresh asks again.

Sign out is one action in two places. The button here and the one in the top-bar menu clear the session on this Mac. Your projects and profiles stay on disk, and jobs already running on the server keep running. If any are, the pane says so before you click.

For more on the balance, holds and free credit, see Account and minutes. For what the restorable-cuts switch changes in a real timeline, see Exporting to Final Cut Pro.

If something goes wrong

“Updates are off in this build.” That copy of Snitt carries no release signing key, so there is nothing to verify a download against and the update switch is disabled. Released builds — the ones from the download page — update themselves. Download a released build and use it instead.

The Account pane says “Not signed in.” The session ended. Sign in from the main window and the pane fills in.

The balance stays a dash. Snitt could not reach the server. Check the connection, then press refresh. See Troubleshooting if it persists.
