This page covers what a style profile is, how to create and use one, and what happens to projects when a profile is deleted.
A profile is one creator’s editing style, learned from their own published videos. It is not a preset you configure. Snitt works it out from finished edits that creator already approved.
Create a profile and use it
-
Open Style profiles
Click Style profiles in the top bar. The list on the left holds every profile, with its video count under the name.
-
Click New profile
Type a name — usually the creator's name — and click Add. A fresh profile has no videos and has learned nothing yet.
-
Add published videos to it
With the profile selected, drop videos from that creator's own channel onto it, or use Add videos… or Add from YouTube…. Every video belongs to the profile you added it to, never to a project. See importing published videos.
-
Wait for the rows to say Analyzed
Each import runs on its own, and the profile is rebuilt from scratch after every one. You can keep using the app while they run.
-
Pick it when you create a project
In the new-project sheet, choose it under Cut in the style of. See starting a project.
Several profiles at once
Profiles sit side by side, each with its own videos and its own style. One account can cut for more than one creator — a second channel, a client, a co-host — without the styles mixing.
Select a profile in the list and everything on the right belongs to it: its videos, its drop target, its counts.
A project keeps its profile for life
A project picks its profile once, in the sheet where it is created, and keeps it. There is no switching afterwards.
Everything the rough cut takes from your style comes from that profile. To cut the same footage in a different style, create a second project and pick the other profile.
“No profile” is a real choice
The profile list in the new-project sheet always offers No profile — everything gets cut. It is a supported way to work, not an error state.
With no profile, Snitt has learned nothing about this creator, so it falls back to generic behavior: every filler word goes, pauses are left as recorded, and joins are placed evenly. There is nothing for the self-check to compare the finished cut against.
Projects cut this way are labelled as such, so you always know which cuts came from a learned style and which did not.
Deleting a profile
Right-click a profile in the list and choose Delete Profile…. The confirmation says what happens next: projects using this profile keep working, in No-profile mode.
Nothing is deleted or blocked on the project side. A project whose profile is gone carries a note on its card and behaves exactly like a project created with No profile — it still opens, still reviews, still exports, with no learned style to cut against.
Deleting a profile does remove its ingested videos from that profile. To get the style back, create a new profile and import the videos again.
How it works
A profile describes a range, not a single setting: how you usually cut, and how much you vary. One video is a sample rather than a habit, so a profile with three or more analysed videos measures your variation instead of assuming it.
The profile is rebuilt in full after each import into it, so it always describes the videos it currently holds. Sponsor reads are left out.
Profiles live with your account on our servers, which is what lets a job cut against them. What each profile learned is in what we learned.
If something goes wrong
The profile list looks empty when the window opens. The list comes from the server. What you see first is the last known state; it fills in as soon as the network answers.
A profile shows fewer videos than you added. Videos that failed or were paused mid-analysis are not counted as analyzed. Open the profile and look at the row status — a paused row offers Resume, a failed one offers Retry.
The new-project sheet warns that a profile has no style yet. That profile has no analyzed videos in it. Either wait for the imports to finish, or start the project and accept generic settings for it.
You picked the wrong profile for a project. It cannot be changed. Create a new project with the same footage and the right profile.
